Navite R3D support finaly available for CS4 only…
Well it finally happened, RED just released it’s “Beta” Adobe CS4 Installer – which brings native raw support for R3D files inside of Premiere CS4.0.1 and After Effects 9.0.1 (make sure that you’ve done your updates). This supports footage from RED One’s up through Build 18, but not without a very serious workstation!
Min spec has been reported to be:
- 3.0 Ghz Quad Core System with 8 GB RAM
- Hard drive with at least 40MB/sec (Striped RAID recommended) – yeah no joke!
- Vista 64 sp1
CS4 Live – still no RED Support
July 31st marked the day when Red came forward to announce that CS3 would have native R3D 4k support – two full months have come and gone, a new version of the Creative Suite began to ship and we have still yet to see this in action! What does this mean? We have to wait – will it ever happen? Eventually…
User Groups – Why do YOU attend?
Within every profession there are many (sometime too many) communities that you can join, groups you can take part in, associations that you can become a member of. But what’s the point – REALLY?! I’ve embarked upon a journey to build community around one of my very favorite application (Adobe After Effects) as a response to the overwhelming discovery that there was no community, association, or UG (as Adobe refers to User Groups).
My journey began when I saw a post on twitter by Trent Armstrong (the founder of the Dallas AEUG) that he was headed out to talk at the DFW AEUG. To be quite honest I was rather jealous that I couldn’t be there (being 280 miles away in North West Houston.) My response to this was proactive googling and scouring all over the web to find something like that here in my neck of the woods. Toiling over old post of people looking for the same sort of group here in town I made two discoveries:
- There is no Group of After Effects Users meeting in Houston
- There is really NO Central Hub for AEUG’s to standardize and share information.
- Do you attend cause there’s a door prize or give-away that night?
- Do you attend to network with others in your field?
- Are you there to learn something?
- Do you show up to help others learn?
CS4 – New tapeless workflow
A while back I was awe-struck with Red’s Announcement that there would be a new plug-in that would allow for a RAW 4k Workflow with-in my favorite suite of products! Well there’s been a long lapse of time from that announcement and there have been a few more “announcements” from Adobe regarding their latest release to the Creative Suite Family (CS4 – if you’re living under a rock has been announced.)
There are many people that are talking about it – so I’m not going to add to that noise, check out the source for all of your news needs… But only on thing that I’m rather taken back with all of this news hype, people scrambling to get their hands on tutorials so that they are ready for Mid October (when CS4 is said to be shipping, also note that if you buy CS3 now – you’ll receive CS4 when it ships! But I digress…)
In all of the updates that we all want to discover and learn how to use – there’s talk about the new tape less work flow, and there has been mention of RED’s R3D but nothing that I’ve seen has officially listed R3D on the list.
I know that there was always a lot of talk of CS4 being the answer for all of these – as it would allow 64 bit support for more memory (needed when cutting 4k footage!). But I recall that there was CS3 support promised for R3D Support. So what am I missing… Adobe’s not really talking about RED other than at the first live event for CS4 – no official mentions on their site, as if to say that it’s not a reality – yet.
Well I guess time will tell, and the new tapeless workflow will lend itself to this addition when it’s ready!!! But I really hope that’s at time of release.
This is a labor of love, if you enjoy what you're reading - help me out, keep me awake for a while.Adobe R3D Support Follow Up
Fresh information hit the REDuser.net forum today that add a bit more light on to what will quickly become an R3D import plug-in for the Adobe Production Suite. Again these are only a preview (which was heavily underlined by the RED Developers). For the full scoop check out DAV’s TechTable (direct link to post.)
