Recommended Kits

I’ll tell you off the bat that this could become a very volatile little experiment, but I’m will to risk the sleep lost and the potential flame wars that could ensue.  I’m only mostly kidding here those of you who actually take the time to read and comment in here at Powered Production are an amazing community and I’m truly grateful for your input and opinions so please don’t hold back when it comes to these collections of gadgets and glorious lists of gear.  I’m going to warn you now, that the lists that we come up with here I will be selling and it will most likely be the best deal that you’ll ever see on the net!

I’m setting forth to build a recommended kit in every single arena of production and in every single budget range possible, not just the high end of toys here!  We will talk about the $10 life savers as well as the best camera for $100k.

At this point I’m trying to figure out where I want to start building – which kits we should start configuring?
Please leave your feedback in the comments and I’ll start the first kit build next week based on feedback here as well as from our Facebook Fan Page and from DM / @Replies on Twitter

    Hi Brad,
I think a LOT of folks are facing the upgrade to 64bit to accomodate CS5 (and the AVCHD codec from the Panasonic AF 100)
I have secured a 1200w power supply and a MSI GTX4700 graphics card, but am ready to look at motherboards.
Based on your experience, what do you think is the best, affordable motherboard for video editing with CS5 Premier and After Effects?
    Thanks for the input.
    Dale

Hey Dale – There are a ton of manufacturers out there, a few of my favorites are Asus & SuperMicro. It really depends on what CPU and RAM you’re going to couple with it. The P6T7 & X8DAH+ are both out standing choices. The main thing that IF you are not a system builder you use someone who understands the needs that an editor needs from his tool kit! You need to know how hard you can push the components, and how to everything will work together for the end result.

Also – I wasn’t aware that MSI had made any Quadro Cards (only PNY – which is what I’d recommend). I’d double check that video card, as something is not right there – I think it might be a 470 GTX from MSI, but not a 4700.
