Having a Mustache is Important!
Well actually, having any form of an identifiable brand is what’s really important!
So, what does this all have anything to do about a mustache? A while back I decided that would be a new part of my personal brand. This all came about after I had established my self as big_B_rad on twitter. So a bit of background – I’m a big guy. (5′ 10” & tipping the scales at 325) So big, might be a bit of an understatement… When I made a choice to become Smaller_B_rad I knew that I’d need to find another / more healthy claim to identity.
Also, growing up my Father often had some epic facial hair! (I’m still trying to dig up some photos for you all) so in an effort to be a little different I decided to grow out a massive mustache! I knew that I was on to something when I showed up to a shoot that my friend was doing at Lakewood Church, and instantly became the guy with the ‘stache! I’ve been sporting this thing on twitter for a while now (I’m always asked if it’s really my mustache) and have been taking updated photos and posting them on twitpic when I remember!
Well, last night my Epic Sized Mustache was immortalized when it was put on the Reddit.com Alien!!!
Not sure how long it will be live, but while it is – hit it up!
Also, what are you doing to establish your personal brand???

So what are you doing to create an personal brand?! I grew a 'stache – what are you doing???
I'm developing a beer belly and trying to grow in some Jules Winnfield burns and stache : – {)
Wow! Way to bring down the Pulp Fiction on the post! I'd recommend against the belly – that's how my brand started as BIG Brad (or B-rad, as some call me). I'm working to become Smaller Brad – but still wanted something to be the brand – which is where the 'stache started!
Yeah, I guess the beer belly isn't all too important for my image. But those Sammy L burns are definitely boss.
Full agree w/ the burns – be sure to DM or @ me a twitpic if you do grow 'em out! ^~~^
sweet – I have goatie – woopie, but alas I lost my sunglasses
It's all about building identity – in any form that you can do that – but the very important thing that I really need to develop here is that in your personal brand you not try to be anyone that's not you! You'll find it too hard to maintain and inconsistency in brand = no brand at all. If you have crazy facial hair own it – if you always wear bowling shirts then own that – and show up with numbers on the back of your shoes…
I first tweet up that I went to in Downtown Houston – I had some one walk up to me and ask me if I was that 'b-rad' guy, that event still tells me that my personal brand is working! When I told this happening to a marketing friend of mine – he flipped out and said, "Man that's like someone asking you if that's a Nike!" Branding done well gathers attention and displaces any doubt as to what it means and what's it is for!
Also I'd highly recommend you to check out any of the Guerrilla Marketing book by Jay Conrad Levinson. He has an awesome book on Guerrilla Creativity using Memes that I'm reading now – it's a must!
Brad,
Completely agree! I'm thinking of what I should make as part of my unique online identity (and in general). Thanks for stimulating my thoughts!
